Channel 7’s Hypocrisy Rears Its Head
April 19th 2008 12:21
Is Kerry Stokes surreptitiously haemorrhaging vitriole or is there some disenfranchised Channel 9 producer now working at 7??
Yet another story from Channel 7 bitching about a programme on a rival channel, this time Channel 9’s My Kid’s A Star. Look, I know the show– even for reality TV – is to put it bluntly, crap. Fair point. But does it deserve a spot on what claims to be one of the premier prime time current affair shows? I don’t think so! It's a blatant case of trying to nobble the opposition in a serious news-orientated environment.
“Reporter” (and I use the term loosely – anybody who agreed to do such a terrible story is pushing the limits claiming to be one) Sophie Hull lined up a litany of talking heads trying to convince us the show was drivel. Wow! There's me thinking Hull was going to offer up a plethora of positive sound bites from people who love the show. I mean, one of the basic tenets of any good journalism is balance, right?
Did Hull have her tongue firmly planted in cheek when, in the same piece, she accused Channel 9's A Current Affair of cross-television promotion when it produced a story on My Kid’s a Star judge Danny Bonaduce (see my previous post)? Hey, Sophie, that’s cool if you are an independent arbitrator with no horse in the race. However, not only do you have a horse in the race, but do you remember a little item on Today/Tonight about Gladitors? Gee, what channel is that great bastion of entertainment on? Why, jam a stick up my arse and call me a kebab – Channel 7. Can you spell and define the word hypocrite Soph?
Guys, stop with the petty bickering and one upmanship and give us some news. Stop wasting our time – and yours.
