Chuck: Chuck Versus the Fat Lady

November 18th 2008 04:20

Well, I can honestly say I didn't see the twist coming at the end. I saw it coming about a minute before the reveal when they were scanning through all the Fulcrum agents. I knew that they had be bringing Chuck's ex-girlfriend back for something big, and big, it certainly is. While this was a superb episode, with several great sequences, I do have some issues with it.

Such as the scene at the Opera House where they find the box with the musical puzzle in it. So they find this box with who knows what in it and they rush it on stage, in front of everyone who is there rehearsing, and just open it? Seriously?! They knew some one was after the same thing. No one thought to discretely leave with the box and open it else where? But then we wouldn't have had the contrived intensity where it might be a bomb. I usually do a pretty good job of suspending belief in moments like these,(Chuck isn't the only show guilty of these kind of moments) but this was just too much.

Okay, onto the positive stuff

I swear, Tony Hale (Emmett Milbarge) gets better with every episode. I didn't like his character at first, but he is growing on me. Also I like how the Buy More sub plots are getting to where they are actually significant to the main character. The sequences at the end when John and Sarah are running to get to Chuck was very cool and a little intense.

Anyway, I can't wait till next week's episode, I can't wait to get the whole story of Jill. Viva Buymordia!

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Ex

November 11th 2008 04:24

This episode is easily one of the best of the series so far. It was fun and elaborate and the best disguises, so far, ensue. I absolutely loved the restaurant scene, I thought it was one of the best directed scenes so far in the show.

With each episode Zachary Levi is impressing me more and more with his acting chops. I sincerely believe that if he keeps this up he will deserve an Emmy nomination. There is a subtly in his performance that I just love. Plus he has to switch back and forth, constantly, between being "just Chuck", the loser who works at the Buy More, and "spy Chuck".

I really liked Jordana Brewster as Chuck's ex-girlfriend, Jill Roberts. I knew it was only a matter of time before they brought Chucks ex into the picture. Brewster really hasn't been in much else, but I hope that this role here will get her some positive exposure. Also Tony Hale returns again this week as Emmett Milbarge, someone sent by Buy More corporate to help improve the store's efficiency. I enjoyed his character much more, this episode, than the last. Probably because he was given much better lines.

I'd have to say, in my opinion, that this was the best episode so far this season. Which is a big deal considering the great episodes we've gotten this season, excluding last episode's disappointment.

Chuck: Chuck Versus Tom Sawyer

October 28th 2008 03:38

Well this is the first episode of the season that has been a little bit of a let down. It got too far fetched and wasn't as charming and witty as it usually is. Playing a video game to get some codes to a satellite? Come on, who puts a code to a satellite in a video game? Who does that? It just got a too silly there toward the end

It had several good moments worth mentioning though.

I love Tony Hale(Arrested Development) as Emmett Milbarge, a guy who is sent by Buy More to improve the employees at the Burbank branch. I thought he was perfect in the role. He was very subtle with his performance, just as he was on Arrested Development.

I also really like the montage toward the end when it was cutting back and forth between Chuck, Sarah, and Casey. It was a great example of good editing and it made for a very fun scene.

I haven't mentioned this yet and I've been meaning to. One thing that they are using to great effect this season is the soundtrack. Not the score, but the awesome tunes they have been incorporating into the episodes. Like "Do You Believe In Love" by Huey Lewis And The News, when Ellie and Awesome come home in Chuck Versus the Seduction. Or "Hip To Be Square" and "Power Of Love" also by Huey Lewis And The News, both used in the season opener. I loved all the 90's music in the last episode too.

Even though this episode was a little disappointing, I'm super excited for the next episode and still a big fan of the show.

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Cougars

I have been dying to get some back story on Sarah. For a while there I actually though they had revealed her real name, but no. I thought the flashbacks scenes were great, especially the very end one. The costume and make-up dept. did a great job making Sarah look 10 years younger and completely opposite of how she looks now. Even though I've been wanting some Sarah back story, it leaves me only wanting more

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Break-Up

Every show, worth watching(which I know is a matter of opinion) has moments that fans of the particular show will talk about a lot, even after the show has gone off the air. This episode of Chuck has one of those moments. The scene at the end with Sarah and Chuck talking outside of his place is the most honest and emotional scene so far in the series

Chuck: Chuck Versus the Seduction

This was a very good episode. It was one of the more clever episodes they've done. I am very good at picking up subtleties in actor's performances and director's... direction. There was a lot of subtle humor and a great attention to detail that hasn't really been done on the show, as well as they did it in this episode
