Dollhouse Season 1 on DVD/Blu Ray

August 24th 2009 02:19

So this is my review of the first season of Dollhouse on DVD or Blu Ray. Personally I watched it on Blu Ray.
Special Features

Deleted Scenes: These were fun. Sometimes deleted scenes can be boring because, you know, they're deleted for a reason. The most interesting scenes were the ones from the original pilot episode, but all are worth watching.

Making Dollhouse: This was your standard behind the scenes, making of, featurette. I found it interesting enough to not be bored. There are lots of interviews with cast and crew on how they feel about working on the show.
Coming Back Home: Several cast and crew interviews with people who have all worked with Joss Whedon before. Mainly they talked about how wonderful it was to be working with Joss again. Since I am a such huge Joss Whedon fan, I loved this little extra.
Finding Echo: A short feature on the evolution of the character Echo from the time the character was created till she hit the screen and what it takes for Eliza to play Echo.
Designing the Perfect Dollhouse: A behind the scenes look at what it took to build the set. I was amazed and what went into making the set. I now have a new found appreciation for the set of the Dollhouse itself. I never realized how big it was.
A Private Engagement: I found this feature kind of boring to be honest. It was just several interview with cast and crew about what they thought about the technology portrayed in the show. You could tell that some of the people who were interviewed really didn't care for some of the questions. I loved Tim Minear's reaction: "What are you an idiot?"

Epitaph One: This is the mysterious episode 13. I don't know what to say about it other than: Wow. Seriously, it's to bad they could have been doing these kind of episodes all season. You just have to see it for yourself.
Original Unaired Pilot: I think that had FOX allowed this to be aired in the first place this show would have gotten off to a better start with the fans. I think it established the concept of the show much better.

Commentary
Ghost: This was with both Joss and Eliza. I really liked this commentary it was funny and engaging and provided a lot of incite into the episode.
Man on the Street: I didn't find this commentary as engaging because it was Joss by himself. It was still very interesting though. This was one of my favorite episodes of the season.
Epitaph One: This was with commentary by Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, who wrote the episode. Out of the three episodes with commentary this was the least enjoyable to listen to. Most of the time it's like they are trying to figure out what they should say. Though, there are a few times where they provide some interesting bits of info.
