Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 2
October 4th 2008 02:36
Season 2 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer could arguably be the best of the 7 seasons. Out of TV.com's current top 10 rated episodes of Buffy, season 2 has the most in the top 10, with 3(Becoming Part 2, Passion, and Innocence), BUT we also got some real stinkers(Some Assembly Required, Inca Mummy Girl, Bad Eggs)
MY TOP 5 EPISODES
5. Surprise
My Favorite Quote:
Giles: His touch can literally burn the humanity out of you. A true creature of evil can survive the process. No human ever has.
Xander: What's the problem? We send Cordy to fight this guy, and we go for pizza.
Why It's In My Top 5:
Well for one it's the start of the tradition that something bad always happens on Buffy's birthday. This episode is also very pivotal. It has the big reveal that Jenny is not who every one thinks she is, making her much more interesting and mysterious. It's also the beginning of the Angelus story line which I personally loved.
4. Becoming, Part 1
My Favorite Quote:
Whistler: Bottom line is, even if you see 'em coming, you're not ready for the big moments. No one asks for their life to change, not really. But it does. So what are we, helpless? Puppets? No. The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwords that counts. That's when you find out who you are.
We get to see Angel's history and who he was before he became a vampire and the circumstances surrounding how he was turned. Also The circumstances surrounding how and why his soul was restored. It was all very, for lack of a better word, cool. How about the awesome sets in the flashbacks. I remember the first time I saw this episode I was just in awe of the production value of the flashbacks. It set the standard for the rest of the series.
3. Innocence
My Favorite Quote:
Willow: I knew it. I knew it! Well, not knew it in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know.
Why It's In My Top 5:
We get our first experience of watching Angelus. I have been saying for years that David Boreanaz was 10 times the actor when he was Angelus and not Angel. His scene when Buffy finds him in his apartment is heart breaking. I mean wow, he played evil you rarely find on TV. I thought the whole episode was very entertaining, from Xander going all military to the mall where they take down the Judge.
2. Passion
My Favorite Quote:
Angelus: Passion. It lies in all of us. Sleeping...waiting... And though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws, and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... Passion rules us all. And we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion, maybe we'd know some kind of peace. But we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank... Without passion, we'd be truly dead.
Why It's In My Top 5:
I've already mentioned David Boreanaz acting when he is Angelus, but in this episode he takes it to a whole new level. This episode easily has one of the most emotional moments from the entire series: The scene where Giles find Jenny, dead, in his bed. No matter how many times I watch this episode(which has been quite a few) it never fails to move me. I love the underlying theme of the episode as well, it wasn't just another episode of the show, it really makes a statement about us and human nature. See the above quote.
1. Becoming, Part 2
My Favorite Quote:
Spike: We like to talk big, vampires do. "I'm going to destroy the world." Its just tough-guy talk. Struttin' round with your friends over a pint of blood. The truth is, I like this world. You've got dog racing, Manchester United, and you've got people... billions of people walking around like Happy Meals with legs. It's all right here. But then, someone comes along with a vision. With a real... passion for destruction. Angel could pull it off. Goodbye Piccadilly, farewell Leicester-bloody-Square. You know what I'm saying?
Why It's In My Top 5:
Pretty much everything I loved about Becoming, Part 1, but times by 2. I loved the scene when Angel sees Buffy for the first time. When she is called to be a Slayer. The were just so many great moments. This was the episode that I fell in love with Spike, but not in a gay way. The Sword fight between Buffy and Angelus was just awesome and say what you may about SMG acting skills, she was great in the scene following that, after Willow had restored Angel's soul. Not only is this episode my favorite of season two, but one of my all time favorites from the whole series.
