Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Am I the only one who didn't find this movie funny? Don't get me wrong, I like this movie overall. The romantic aspect of this film was very strong. After every joke I thought to myself, that's a really good joke, why am I not laughing at it? I think it was the comedic timing. The joke was funny and clever, but it just didn't seem to fit into the moment. The jokes must have been much funnier on paper. I also found myself put off by how many times it would jump to a scene with a couple secondary character out of nowhere. That works for shows like The Family Guy and 30 Rock. Those shows have had the opportunity to establish that as their style, but it just seems so out of place when it happened on the movie, and it happened a lot. They were supposed to be funny, but left me saying: "Huh?"
That also made the pacing of the movie feel off as well. A lot of stuff happens right in the first 5-10 minutes, 3 weeks of stuff actually. Then all of the sudden he's in Hawaii and surprise, at the same hotel as his ex-girlfriend. Then everything slows down, then at the end a whole lot of other stuff happens in what I can only imagine is another few weeks.
The romantic part of the film was very solid, I thought. One thing I thought they did well was keeping it spontaneous. I kept wondering through the whole thing who Peter would really end up with in the end, if anyone.
Another thing that worked really well was the cast. Everyone had great on-screen chemistry, but Russell Brand (Aldous Snow) really stole the show. I loved the character played by Mila Kunis, I thought she played the part very well and I hope this opens up better roles for her.
Anyway, romantic part: good, comedy part: I'm sorry, wasn't funny at all. They tried too hard and it fell flat.
