Iron Man (2008)

My biggest concern with this movie is over dependence on the actors to make the story and dialogue believable. I don't think the script is as strong as it first appears. Just as bad acting can make a script seem weaker than it is, the great cast of Iron Man delivers the story so well it seems much stronger than it really is. In my opinion, movies should not have to rely on the cast to do that. Not that the script was bad, it just could have been much better.
I thought everything else worked together very well. Jon Favreau vision for the movie was perfect. He could have done many different things with the location and time the story takes place, but he knew what he wanted and stuck with it. He used the visual effects to great effect, as well. Not overdone like some movies such as Star Wars Episodes 1-3.
The cast was a dream. You rarely find the chemistry that the characters have together. Especially between Robert Downy Jr. and Terrence Howard. I really bought into their friendship. I think they had the most believable relationship in the whole movie.
I do have a couple of nit-picks that I think are worth mentioning. First was during the building of the suit while Tony Stark is in captivity. The captors can clearly see, through constant video surveillance, that he is not building what they asked. There is also no sign that his captors get progress reports either. There is no way he could have built that entire suit with out raising suspicion. That really bugged me.
The other thing is the musical score. I didn't think it did anything to invoke or support the mood of movie. It felt way to generic.
You will be blown away by this movie the first time you watch it, but during the second viewing you start seeing the flaws. But I still highly recommend this movie.
