Pushing Daisies: Oh Oh Oh...It's Magic

November 20th 2008 03:30

The writing for this show is top notch, especially the humorous parts. While this show has many, many funny moments, I don't often find myself actually laughing out loud, maybe once an episode, I don't really find most of it the laugh out loud kind of humor. That being said, I found myself LOLing several times during this episode. I don't know if it was my mood or what, I'd like to think it was because it was extra funny.

Not only was this episode extra funny, it was extra everything. Pretty much take everything that we love about any given episode of Pushing Daisies and times it by two and you get this episode. I absolutely loved it. This is one of two shows, on the air right now, to make me crack up laughing one moment then be incredibly, emotionally moved by the next. The other show being Supernatural.

Fred Willard, among others, guest starred this week as a magician named The Great Herrmann. I'm a big fan of his and loved this role for him. I should also mention a great appearance by Paul F. Tompkins as a geeky magician.

One last thing i want to mention and that is the amazing scene at the end when Ned takes Chuck to her "aunt's" house and she get to overhear Lilly talk to Olive about being Chuck's mother. It was one of the most emotion moments on the show yet and it was a great performance by Anna Friel.

Pushing Daisies: Dim Sum Lose Some

October 30th 2008 02:25

This show does such a good job, each episode, of presenting us with both a compelling mystery while at the same time providing appropriate character development and progressing particular story lines.

This episode is a great example of that. I won't spoil anything in case anyone reading this hasn't seen the episode yet, but is planning on it. But we get a big revel about Ned and his family and it creates a wonderfully touching scene at the end, but at the same time adding a bit of mystery to a certain new, recurring character.

That character would be Dwight Dixon played by Stephen Root(Office Space, King of the Hill). He is one of my favorite actors and although we only get a small bit of him in this episode he has great screen presence and I really enjoyed his character.

This episode was another good example of how well this show uses colors in their costumes and set design. There was a lot of red in this episode just like how there was a lot of yellow in the season opener. i love it when they do that.

Too bad we have to wait a few weeks for the next episode.

Pushing Daisies: Frescorts

October 23rd 2008 02:40

What can I say other that this was another superb episode. Everything just worked so well together. The subplots supported the main plot perfectly. We had great guest stars and the episode built on everything that happened in the last episode.

Lee Pace continues to demonstrate why he was nominated for an Emmy award for his acting in this show. In this episode he builds and expands the emotional depth that he expressed in the last episode. It also shows that the writers of this show, show that they know what they are doing with these characters.

I was wondering when Olive and Chuck were going to work out all the issues between the two of them. Well they did in this episode, well, begin to anyway. Again, showing that the writers really know what they are doing with these characters.

Let's talk about the guest stars. Debra Mooney(Everwood) was excellent as Calista Cod, Emerson's mother. She showed a wonderful range of emotion in her character. David Arquette plays Randy Mann, a socially awkward guy with an odd hobby. He made it seem as if the role was specifically written for him, who knows maybe it was.

The murder mystery in this episode was top notch. It was interesting and had a few clever twists that we have come to expect, but never see coming. With each new episode I get more and more excited for this show every week.

Pushing Daisies: Bad Habits

I've always thought Lee Pace's acting was subtly brilliant. He was nominated for an Emmy for it. Even though he does a great job portraying Ned, I've always felt that Ned was a static character. But after this episode I suppose he was supposed to be that way. There is a great moment in the confessional where Ned and the Priest work out some of Ned's issues. That scene alone brings to light a whole new layer of Ned that we all knew was there but was suppressed by him. I'm certain that Ned's father will soon be part of the show

Pushing Daisies: Circus Circus

This episode was everything we have come to expect from this series. Personally I found the case itself a tad bland, but it did provide us with some character development for Emerson. It gave us some insight to some of his motivations

Pushing Daisies: Bzzzzzzz!

October 2nd 2008 02:45

Where do I even start to talk about how amazing this show is. This show sets the standard for set design, costumes and make up. I've studied film and theater and I know how difficult it can be to make everything on screen work together. But this show does it wonderfully, it's so bright and colorful yet dark and gothic at the same time. This show is right up my alley
