Smallville: Toxic

My initial feelings toward Cassidy Freeman(Tess Mercer) were pretty negative. I really didn't think she was a good fit for the show. She has been growing on me since the premier and I kind of like her now. The writers have created a very interesting and mysterious character and, thanks to this episode, I am intrigued to find out more about her.
This was a pretty good episode. We get quite a bit of character development with Oliver and Tess, showing that they have a history together. One thing that I didn't like about this episode was the presence of Davis Bloome. He was just there for the sake of being there. It was all pretty contrived. It seemed like his being part of the episode was for convenience only. They could have come up with a better way to build his character. Last week, when they introduced his character, it flowed right with the plot and was great.
Other than that little weakness, this was a good episode. I'm very impressed with this season so far. Does it occur to anyone else that Smallville has gotten consistently better with the absence of Lana? I could be wrong.
