The Sam's special powers story line is what got me really hooked to the show. During season 3 it seemed like they had stopped exploring it altogether, until the last episode anyway. In this episode we get more information about the Yellow Eyed demon's real motivations for choosing Sam. For that I am very grateful for the return back to that story line.
We also get a whole lot more information to add to the whole over arcing mythology of the series. We learn that Sam and Dean's mother was a hunter, well she was raised by one anyway. I actually saw that coming. They certainly alluded to the fact that Mary knew yellow eyes back in "All Hell Breaks Loose".
Not only is this probably going to go down as one of the best episodes so far, it also produces my new favorite Dean quote(see above). From day one of the series, Ive been saying that they really know what they are doing with this show. By far one of the superior shows on television right now.
