Supernatural: Heaven and Hell

November 21st 2008 04:37

As I watched this episode I kept thinking that it wasn't living up to what the previous episode set up for it, but man I was so wrong. The climax was just amazing and holy crap what a performance by Jensen Ackles there at the end with his monologue about being in hell.

One thing that just blows me away by the show in general is how detail oriented everything it. That's not easy to do consistantly because each week you have a different writer and director and I'm sure the crews get mixed around a fair amount. Yet Supernatural does it every week.

There were a couple great twists. I seriously didn't see the reveal that Anna was once an Angel. Wow, so Sam has slept with a demon and Dean, an Angel. I wonder if they are trying to be symbolic with that, they could be, but then it could be that that is just the way it worked out with the direction the story went.

This may be a difficult episode to review because it is the first of a two parter. It was still a very good episode was great moments, I guess I'll talk about those.

My favorite scene was definitely when Sam and Dean meet Anna, played by guest star Julie McNiven at the church. I don't know why, but that was a very powerful scene to me. When she talked about what she has over heard the Angels say about Sam and Dean was a very well written scene.

Mostly this episode served to reveal what was going on with Sam while Dean was in hell. We could have done without some of those scenes because they had already insinuated or talked about most of what happened. The only thing we didn't already know was that Ruby had saved Sam's life. That was important, but everything else we knew already.

Anyway, if Supernatural keeps this caliber of episode quality up, this season will be legend. Seriously, because of how good this season has been, word of mouth for this show has doubled. It's ratings are up and it's funny because other popular show's ratings are slipping and everybody wonders why? Take a leaf out of Supernatural's book and MAKE BETTER EPISODES!

Supernatural: Wishful Thinking

November 7th 2008 05:01
When I saw the teaser for this episode, after last week's episode, I actually thought it was a little silly and wasn't really looking forward to this episode... I should have known better than to think that. With how awesome this season has been, how could I have thought that?

Even though they have never done an episode like this at all, it still had everything we have have come to love in an episode. Especially the humor. Seriously, Teddy Bear Doctors? Who thinks up this stuff. Ben Edlund that's who. He has already written several great episodes of Supernatural as well as been a writer on Firefly and Angel. He wrote what is widely regarded, and in my opinion, the best episode of Angel: Smile Time. I am a huge fan of this guy.

Anyway, I thought that the supernatural stuff the brothers were investigating was interesting enough. Not much really happened though. The story itself was pretty stand alone, with a little bit of the over lying plot of the season thrown in there at the end. What really drew me in to the episode was the great dialogue. This is television writing at it's best.

Every episode this season, it seems, leaves me saying: How can they top this? But then they do another amazing episode the next week

Supernatural: Yellow Fever

I think this episode could be the funniest episode they've ever done. By funniest I mean: It had more funny moments than any other episode. The cat in the locker scene had me rolling, and the outtake after the episode was just spectacular. This could probably be Jensen Ackles best performance on the show to date. I mean seriously it take some major acting chops to do what he did in this episode.

I better move on because I could keep going like that for a while

Supernatural: Monster Movie

October 17th 2008 03:53

I don't have words, right now, to describe how much I enjoyed this episode. Sure there have been better episodes, but this one was just fun and then some. It was like what Joss Whedon did with Once More With Feeling. He channeled his love of older musicals and made a musical episode out of it. It very similar to what the creative teams did with this episode, they channeled older monster movies and made an episode with tons of homage moments in it. Robert Singer and whomever the director of photography is, did a spectacular job with using the camera in the same fashion as those older movies

Supernatural: Metamorphosis

This was a well crafted, thought out episode. I say that because of the way the case paralleled Sam's internal conflict. A lot of the things that Sam tried to talk to Jack about was like he was saying it to himself. It's can be dangerous to do an episode like this because it can easily become very contrived, but not so with this episode

So we find out that Lilith is the one who is trying to bring about the Apocalypse and that Dean was brought back to help stop her. So right now I am wondering something. Isn't Sam supposed to be more powerful than Lilith? They made that pretty clear in the season finale. Why is God so concerned about recruiting Dean when Sam is right there? Don't get me wrong, I love the show and this episode, but right now that's kind of a hole. They'll most likely explain it somewhere down the road, but am I the only one wondering this
